The 70 years ends with the fall of Babylon, not with the return of the exiles. 539. Easy!!! 👍

Scholar, I guess you are trolling but Ill bite anyway.
Of course the passage speaks to the Jews primarily but also clearly mentions that other nations, not just the Jews would be affected.
I don't pretend to be an expert, or even a 'scholar', so maybe Ive missed something, but if you could point out which verse in that passage mentions the destruction of the Jewish temple, I would appreciate it.

The prophecy of Jeremiah in chapter 25 doesn't mention the destruction of the temple in relation to determining the 70 year period.
25 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Je·hoiʹa·kim+ son of Jo·siʹah, the king of Judah, which was the first year of King Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar*of Babylon. 2 This is what Jeremiah the prophet spoke concerning*all the people of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
8 “Therefore this is what Jehovah of armies says, ‘“Because you would not obey my words, 9 I am sending for all the families of the north,”+ declares Jehovah, “sending for King Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar*of Babylon, my servant,+ and I will bring them against this land+ and against its inhabitants and against all these surrounding nations.+ I will devote them to destruction and make them an object of horror and something to whistle at and a perpetual ruin. 10 I will put an end to the sound of exultation and the sound of rejoicing from them,+ the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride,+ the sound of the hand mill and the light of the lamp. 11 And all this land will be reduced to ruins and will become an object of horror, and these nations will have to serve the king of Babylon for 70 years.”’+
12 “‘But when 70 years have been fulfilled,+ I will call to account*the king of Babylon and that nation for their error,’+ declares Jehovah, ‘and I will make the land of the Chal·deʹans a desolate wasteland for all time.
These verses clearly show that the prophecy wasnt specific to the Jews but all the nations around the area were to be subject to Babylon for 70 years.
It doesn't mention the temple.
It doesn't say the land will be in desolation for 70 years, it says that the nations will be in servitude to Babylon for 70 years.
Lastly, the 70 years were going to end, not with the return of the Jews to their homeland but with the punishment of the King of Babylon, which everyone agrees happened in 539 bce.
If the 70 years of servitude started when Jeremiah spoke the prophecy, that gives us a start date of 605, being the first year of Nebuchadnezzar. Is it possible that the 70 years had already started by then, as Babylon was already ruling anyway?
If the 70 years started at or about the time of Jeremiahs prophecy, that opens another can of worms for the WTS. Jeremiah 1 says that the first year of Nebuchadnezzar was the 4th year of Jehoiakim. According to jw.org, the 4th year of Jehoiakim was 624 bce.

Why dont the JWS see that they are supporting a corrupt and commercialized false Gospel ?
by Finkelstein inits astonishing to reflectively realize the jws are supporting a group of men who teach and profess a false and tainted commercialized gospel of jesus and his the new kingdom order.
out of hundreds of christian faiths in existence only one teaches that 1914 was the year christ returned and has taken to his heavenly throne in heaven.
according to the bible this date setting is an act of disloyalty and apostasy through the very words of jesus.

And it all hinges on claiming Jerusalem fell in 607, not 587, a year overwhelmingly attested to by history and astronomy.

Bring to ruin those ruining the earth, but what if we change.

if they are talking about this you can bet that others are too.
they seem to be all excited that a lot of attention in the news right now is about climate change, greta, extinction rebellion etc... as you can image they are very smug saying see.

The signs in heaven, mentioned in Matt 24 have already occurred if you believe that the bible is accurate.
In 66 AD, the comet we know as Halley's comet appeared over Jerusalem and hung in the sky 'like a sword', according to Josephus.
Now the real question is, was it predicted, or was it woven into the story after the event?

The biggest mistake.
by Half banana ina long time ago, before television radio and films, before printing, before the invention of writing, people listened only to the spoken word—and the cry of birds, the wind whistling through the trees and the sea crashing on the sea shore.
before written text they knew about the gods because high up there in the night sky was where they lived; gods, goddesses and immortal heroes.
the constellations told of their exploits.

The main job of any religion is to convince people that they can cheat death by following the rules of their particular belief system.
Everything else is designed to control.

Cause of Mass Shootings Mental Health?
by blondie ini have been sad to see so many groups and individuals say that the cause of these events are the mental status of the shooters.
i have looked over the backgrounds of these shooters, and few had medically identified mental health issues.
it is too easy to think that people shoot or kill other people because they are mentally ill.. actually, many or most people with real mental illnesses are most likely to be the victims of others.. i have been a volunteer with the organization called nami (national alliance of mental lillness) for 25 years now.

I would be interested to know how many gun owners believe that a gun equals security?
When faced with an incident, how do you think you would go?
How often do you participate in active shooter, high pressure drills? What about training that involves protecting loved ones as well as dealing with the imminent threat? Once a year? Every few years? Never?
I hear a lot of talk about how guns make you safe but unless you really know your stuff you might end up shooting yourself in the arse before you manage to deal with the problem.

Hi Blondie, love your work.
To get back to your O. P. my personal opinion is that if someone is feeling so bad about the world/ their life / hatred for others / wanting to hurt others / wanting to project their feelings etc, to the point that they carry out the plan by way of a mass shooting, then yes, I believe they are mentally ill.
Just as a person may look healthy and get sick or die suddenly because of an undiagnosed physical issue, I would say that it is the same with a mass shooter.
I'm not a qualified expert, just my 2 cents.

Money! How much did you "Contribute" To The WTB@TS When You Were A Member
by The Bethelite ini was in full time service for six years including bethel.
once i got out of bethel, i figured i had already given them six of the best years of my life (ages 18-24) working as a slave/drone in their factory, so i rationalized that i had given them enough... so over the next 27 years i would say maybe $200 bucks is it.
i think their whole "voluntary contributions" idea is biting them in the ass, because over all jehovah's witnesses are a cheap group people with a few exceptions.

Over 36 years I donated about 100 bucks.
I think I always felt something wasn't quite right.
BTW Rickroll, sounds like you rickrolled your grandma.
